Providing care to pregnant people in
Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding area.
Midwives of Algoma provide prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care.

Midwifery Model of Care

We are committed to providing high quality, culturally sensitive, safe and effective care to pregnant people and their families.

Informed Choice

Informed choice is a collaborative information exchange between a midwife and her client that supports client decision-making. Informed choice is a fundamental principle of midwifery care in Ontario.

On Call Availability

From the onset of your care, pregnancy, labour, birth, and first 6 weeks postpartum, midwives are available 24/7 for urgent situations.

You can expect a response to urgent pages within 15 minutes.

Only midwives, student midwives and staff, have access to your file. Records will only be shared with others with your consent.

At your six-week follow up visit you may request a copy of your records.

When Should I Contact a Midwife?

We can not stress this enough – if you have taken a pregnancy test and would like to see a Midwife, call us as SOON as you get a positive result.

You do not need a referral or pregnancy confirmation from your NP or Family Doc, although we are happy to accept referrals from them. Call us ASAP to be placed with a Midwife.

We would LOVE to accommodate everybody but have limited spaces that fill up quickly so please do not wait to call!

There is a good chance you will find the answer under our FAQ page!

But if not, please Contact Us and we will reply as soon as we can.
